User Personas: Project Manager | Field User
Team members can use a range of simple markup tools to add annotations that draw attention to specific areas of a drawing. The markup toolbar includes clouds, shapes, arrows, lines, text, and other tools to support clear communication.
To perform the actions in this article, you need to be assigned a license for the Drawings tool and have the Drawings - General Permissions permissions.
This article covers the mobile component of sheet markups. For the web component and additional details, see: Markups: Annotations, Measurements, Snapshots and Callouts.

Previewing Sheets
From the Sheets log:
- Select a sheet to view it, then zoom and pan the image until the desired area is captured in the image preview
- Zoom in/out on the image by double tapping or using the pinch gesture with your fingers on your device screen
- When zoomed in on the image, drag a finger on your device screen to pan through the image
Using the Markup Toolbar
The markup toolbar is available while editing a sheet on both iOS and Android devices. After you select Edit, the markup toolbar appears. If the toolbar does not appear, tap anywhere on the sheet to view it.
Select one of the toolbar options depending on the type of markup you wish to apply. Note, to see additional tools, swipe left on the toolbar.
Once a markup tool is selected, style preset options appear on the toolbar at the bottom and can be used for the markup if desired.
Applying a Markup to the Sheet
|
Each of the markup options is different, but the general method for most markups is to first select the markup option on the toolbar, then hold and drag your finger along the image to apply the markup to the desired area on the sheet. From the Sheets log:
|
| You can pan through an image while a tool is selected by dragging two fingers simultaneously along the image. |
| Markup edits are not versioned. If two team members edit markups on the same sheet at the same time, whoever saves last overwrites the other’s changes, so coordinate before editing a sheet someone else is working on. |
Change the Styling of a Markup
Before you have applied the markup to the sheet: After selecting a markup option on the toolbar, you can choose one of the preset style options to apply that style to your markup. The preset style options can be customized by selecting the arrow icon on the style to reveal a menu of style options. The selected style will be applied to your next markup.
Change the style of an existing markup: Select the markup with your finger then select Style on the floating menu. A menu with different style options for the markup will appear. Choose your desired style options to apply to the markup.
Move or Resize a Markup
To move a markup: While the markup is selected, hold your finger on the markup (as opposed to one of the markup adjustment points) and drag your finger along the image to move the markup to the desired location.
To resize a markup shape: While the markup is selected, adjustment points will appear on or around the shape. Hold your finger on one of the markup adjustment points and drag your finger along the image to resize the markup as desired.
To resize a freehand text markup: Tap on the markup to select it, then tap on the text to reveal font styling options. Select the desired font size that you wish to apply to the text.
Undo or Redo a Markup
Use the undo and redo options (arrows) in the toolbar to undo or redo markup actions respectively. Markups can only be undone or redone in the same edit session.
Delete a Markup
Delete a single markup: Select the markup with your finger then select Delete on the floating menu.
Delete multiple markups: You can use the eraser icon to delete multiple markups by selecting it and then holding and dragging your finger over any markups you wish to delete. Alternatively, you can use the marquee tool to select one or more markups and then select Delete on the floating menu.
Annotate Measurements on a Sheet
|
The measurement tools allow you to verify distances, widths, and dimensions directly on your sheets. Use measurements to confirm field layouts, compare planned versus actual conditions, or communicate changes to your team. Measurements are only as accurate as the scale you set, so treat them as reference values rather than exact dimensions. The markup floating menu appears when you select the markup, including the Style and Calibrate options used below. Once a measurement tool is selected, the style bar with preset options appears at the bottom of the screen. |
Set a Measurement Scale
Multiple scales can be created on mobile by setting your desired scales into preset style options in the measurement tool.
|
Calibrate a Measurement Based on a Known Distance While editing a sheet:
|
| The scale on a measurement that has already been applied to the sheet can be changed within the same edit session by altering the style options of the markup. |
|
Input a Scale Manually Manual scales can be input by updating one of the preset style options for the measurement tool. The scale that you enter into the preset style will be applied to future measurements that use the given preset style option. While editing a sheet:

Add a Measurement to a Sheet
